COVID-19 Student Update 20

/ Coronavirus Student Updates
We welcome the good news received with this morning’s announcement by Premier Daniel Andrews, from 11.59pm Wednesday 17 February 2021 Victoria returns to COVIDSafe Summer restrictions with some revised conditions.
COVID-19 update

For SWTAFE, this means we can return to normal operations tomorrow.

In today’s press announcement the Premier outlined:

From 11:59pm tonight, we will largely return to the previous rules – while keeping a watchful eye on some of the riskier settings.

There’ll no longer be four reasons to leave home. The five-kilometre restriction will no longer apply.

Restaurants and retail can reopen. Same too with community facilities, entertainment venues and all other public places – although some additional limits on crowd sizes will be in place.

Students will be able to head back to school. Workers will be able to get back to work.
For offices – both public and private – that means a return to 50 per cent on site.

It’s important we reduce the risk in some of our most vulnerable settings. That means having no more than five visitors to your home per day. And limiting public gatherings with friends and family to 20.

Masks will also be required outside if you can’t physically distance from others.

Those other defences – checking in when we’re heading out, washing our hands, keeping our distance – will remain just as critical.

SWTAFE operations resume from Thursday 18 February

  • SWTAFE will re-open all campuses from Thursday 18 February
  • All scheduled classes resume from tomorrow, Thursday 18 February, which includes VETDSS classes
  • If your class was scheduled to take place via WebEx, this will continue, if you are unsure, please confirm with your teacher
  • Please note any students who are studying courses in the following areas will not be required to attend classes this week:
Certificate III in Carpentry, Certificate III in Cabinet Making, Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade, Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade, Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Certificate III in Plumbing
Your normal trade school block will be re-scheduled to another date, and this updated information will be supplied to you and your employer.
  • There is no density quotient required in classroom settings
  • Masks are mandatory anywhere indoors at SWTAFE (including offices and classrooms) and outdoors when you cannot maintain 1.5m physical distancing (unless a lawful exemption applies)

I am very grateful for the calm and measured response by our students to last week’s circuit-breaker lockdown, which once again highlighted our capacity to pivot and adapt.

We now look forward to students returning to our campuses tomorrow.
