Empowering Lives Through Community Services
I had always had an interest in the community services field from when I was trying to access support services myself.
I knew that support was always there for me and I decided I wanted to give back.
I wanted to be that person for someone and to make a difference. If I can make a difference to even one person’s life then I know I have been successful – that’s my ultimate goal.
I didn’t feel ready to jump into university straight after secondary school and I had heard great things about the Diploma of Community Services at South West TAFE.
I’m so glad I completed the diploma. It taught me how to study and prepared me well for the workforce and university.
The training at South West TAFE was great. It was very supportive. The teachers were amazing and you were able to build a rapport with them and support was individualised.
Training was extremely suitable for me. The theory and practical work were great and the placement opportunities led me to my current job at Oz Child Warrnambool.
I love that I get to help people and I love that I get to make a difference. It can be really rewarding and it can be very hard, but seeing the difference, especially in families, it’s definitely worth it.
I am currently studying the Bachelor of Social Work at university and I would love to enter counselling at some point.
My career plans for the future are ever-changing. I’m excited for whatever opportunities come about.
