Boost your skills with the Alcohol and Other Drugs Skill Set. This course is aimed at support workers who provide services to clients with alcohol and other drug issues. The skill set is suitable for people who hold a Certificate III level or higher qualification in community services or a related field. It's also ideal for people who have skills equivalent to the qualification or have had substantial industry experience. This course is currently fee free for eligible students.
This skill set will help you to gain recognition of your experience providing alcohol and other drug support in the community and health industry.
You will learn specialised skills to recognise and work effectively with clients who experience alcohol and/or other drug issues.
You will gain skills in working in an alcohol and other drugs context, assessing the needs of clients, providing interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues and developing and reviewing individual treatment plans.

The units in this course provide credit towards a range of qualifications in Community Services, including the Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs CHC43215.

This course involves accredited units. You will be required to complete assessment tasks to demonstrate your underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes to meet the course outcomes. A combination of written, oral and practical assessment strategies will be used in either a classroom, online or workplace environment.
Where units require demonstration of skills in a workplace environment, you will have the opportunity to do this either in your own workplace (where appropriate), through a practical placement, or by using one of the Institute's simulated workshops/classrooms. Detailed information about the types, conduct and dates of assessments will be provided in advance. You will also be provided with information about the opportunity for reassessment and appeal.
Once you have applied for your chosen course, you will receive a thank you email from South West TAFE with a few steps to help process your enrolment.

Skills recognition
If you have experience or prior qualifications, you may be eligible to apply for recognition of prior learning and gain credits. You will be asked to provide any relevant Statement of Attainment to support identified credits.
